UdharesRescue Turtle

Olive Ridley turtle, admitted 2 March 2026, Gaafu Alif Atoll, Maldives

Udhares was found floating near Kooddoo, Gaafu Alif Atoll, on 2 March with an injury to her left hind flipper, which resulted in two fractures in the digits. She was initially admitted to our turtle rescue centre at Kuda Huraa under the name of Lucy, before being transferred to our larger faciility at Landaa.

From the beginning, Udhares has been diving and feeding moderately well. At the end of the month, she was moved to our large rehab enclosure  out in the lagoon, to take advantage of the extra space. As the wound is not showing signs of infection and is healing properly, release is planned for the start of April.

4 April … release day!

Udhares was diving properly and her flipper was healing well, so the decision was made to release her. On 4 April, she was released back into the ocean with a satellite tag, allowing us to follow her journey! Map below, and more details on our satellite page.
Unfortunately, we stopped receiving tracking signals on 12 April, possible due to the battery running out, or the tag falling off.
