Turtle Veterinarian / Nurse (closed)
We have a unique opportunity for a turtle care specialist to join our Marine Savers team. We invite applications from qualified veterinarians with experience of reptile biology, as well as from veterinary nurses and turtle biologists with extensive experience of sea turtle care and rehabilitation.

The Role

• Manage our Turtle Rescue Centre; on-call for rescue and first-aid (surgery and amputations).
• Develop diet plans; turtle hand-feeding; clean & maintain the rehabilitation tanks.
• Conduct research on ‘Buoyancy Syndrome’; order medications, develop protocols and facilities.
• Connect with rescue centres inter/nationally; continue our ‘Flying Turtles’ program.

The Ideal Candidate

Either: Veterinary Science qualifications, with experience in reptile pathology and surgery.
Or: Extensive experience in sea turtle care, with qualifications in veterinary nursing or marine science.
• Knowledge and experience in corals and tropical marine biology preferred.
• Proficient written/spoken English (extra languages desirable); sociable, creative, adaptable.
• Computer literate; confident swimmer; SCUBA certified; physically fit non-smoker (able to lift 20kg).

Assistant Coral Biologist (closed)

We currently have a vacancy for an Assistant Coral Biologist, to help with our Reefscapers Coral Propagation Project and research programs, based at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives.
As this is a junior role, it may be best suited to enthusiastic candidates wanting to gain valuable work experience.

The Role

  • Work with our Coral Biologist to develop all necessary skills to manage our coral propagation project.
  • Collect coral fragments to create new frames; maintain, monitor, photograph existing frames.
  • Update our coral frame database; conduct marine life briefings and guided snorkels.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Essential experience in: tropical marine conservation, coral biology & ID, reef regeneration.
  • Confident swimmer/freediver, with SCUBA certification (minimum: PADI Divemaster).
  • Physically fit non-smoker, able to carry 20kg weight and work long hours in the ocean in all weathers.
Marine Biologist - Centre + Liveaboard (closed)

We are seeking a flexible, experienced Marine Biologist to help with our conservation programs. This role is based at our Marine Centre/s, with periods onboard the FS Explorer vessel (sea legs are essential!)

The Role

• Run guest excursions, snorkelling trips and activities; photograph & document marine life.
• Join Four Seasons ‘Explorer’ cruises as our resident marine biologist (for up to six weeks duration).
• Support all programs: coral propagation & reef monitoring, turtle care, marine aquaria.
• Collect data and perform data entry; write illustrated reports (in English) of activities and targets.

The Ideal Candidate

• Academic qualifications in a relevant discipline (Marine Biology, Environmental Science).
• Experience in tropical marine conservation, with extensive knowledge of coral reefs and biodiversity.
• Comfortable working in a guest-facing role in remote locations, both afloat and on small islands.
• Confident swimmer with SCUBA certification to PADI Dive Master (or equivalent) minimum.

Marine Discovery Centre Manager (closed)
We are currently seeking a Manager to oversee all aspects of the Marine Discovery Centre (MDC).

The Role

• Management and responsibility for the Reefscapers team, and all daily operations.
• Support for all programmes: coral propagation, turtle conservation, aquaculture.
• Supervise & coach staff; train Apprentices and Interns.
• Regular written reports (in English) of all projects and targets.
• Management of guest activities, public-relations, and environmental awareness events.

The Ideal Candidate

• Academic qualifications in a relevant discipline (Marine Biology, Environmental Science).
• 5 years’ experience in tropical marine conservation, project management, staff supervision.
• Specific knowledge and experience in the fields of coral biology and sea turtle conservation.
• PADI DiveMaster (or equivalent) essential; 10m free-diving ability preferred.
• An excellent standard of spoken and written English (additional language/s preferred).

Marine Robotics Engineer (closed)
We are seeking a marine robotics engineer to join our REEFSCAPERS team to help with our conservation programs.

The Unique Role

• Lead our Artificial Intelligence & Robotics projects.
• Test, improve, operate, and maintain our unique autonomous vehicle for our Coral Restoration program.
Train software models and refine deep-learning algorithms for coral ID and photographic data analysis.
• Write illustrated project update reports (in English) for publishing on our websites.
• Assist our Coral Biologist with all aspects of our reef restoration program:

The Ideal Candidate

• BSc/MSc/PhD in a robotics-related field, with experience in marine robotics.
• Good programming skills: python/mysql (essential), php/javascript (desirable).
• Confident swimmer with SCUBA certification; boat driving license preferred.
• Good spoken English (extra languages desirable) and proficient at technical-writing.

Marine Biologist (closed)
We are seeking an all-round Marine Biologist to join our Marine Discovery Centre team to help with our conservation programs.

The Role

• Participate & support all programs: coral frame propagation, turtle rehabilitation, marine aquaria.

We currently have a vacancy for a Coral Biologist, to oversee our Reefscapers Coral Propagation Project and research programs, based at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives.

The Role

• Manage all aspects of our coral propagation program and associated activities.
• Maintain our coral frame database and provide photo updates for guest-sponsored frames.
• Collect coral fragments to create new frames; maintain and monitor/photograph existing frames.
• Write monthly illustrated reports (in English) for resort management and to feature on our websites.
• Train our interns and local apprentices; explore new research ideas for coral propagation.

The Ideal Candidate

• BSc/MSc in Marine Sciences (Marine Biology, Environmental Science).
• Experience in coral conservation and research, including coral ID techniques and reef propagation.
• Good standard of written/spoken English (extra languages desirable) and good communication skills.
• Excellent team player, able to educate/supervise colleagues; experience of awareness/education.

Marine Aquarist (closed)

We are seeking a Marine Aquarist to work as part of our Marine Discovery Centre (MDC) team, based at Four Seasons Resort Maldives. This post is a rare opportunity for the right individual looking to further their knowledge and research skills within our resort-based Fish Lab.

The role

• Help to run and develop our ornamental fish breeding program (Clownfish, Seahorses and other species).
• Grow and research various plankton cultures in our Lab.
• Maintain and improve our dedicated jellyfish tank and the 4000L marine aquarium.
• Support all programs: coral frame propagation, turtle rehabilitation, guest awareness and activities.
• Collect and analyse data; contribute to regular written reports (in English).

The ideal candidate

• Qualifications and experience in tropical marine conservation and research.
• Knowledge and experience of marine aquaria and tropical fish species.

Marine aquarium - Maalhos school visit

Turtle Biologist (closed)
We are seeking an experienced Turtle Biologist to work as part of our Marine Discovery Centre (MDC) team to run our turtle conservation programmes, based at Four Seasons Resort Maldives.

The role

• Responsibility for all turtle projects at both Centres (including rehabilitation, head start, turtle identification).
• Manage the diet, health and rehabilitation of all rescue animals and hatchlings.
• Maintain and improve existing facilities and care programmes; explore new research ideas.
• Outreach to local schools, communities and fellow biologists country-wide.
• Monitor beaches for turtle nesting behaviour, to identify and protect nests and hatchlings.
• Collect and process photographs and data; maintain and update databases.
• Conduct marine life briefings and guided snorkels/dives for guests and visiting journalists.

The ideal candidate

• BSc/MSc/PhD in Veterinarian Medicine or Marine Sciences (Marine Biology, Environmental Science).
• 2+ years’ experience in tropical marine conservation and research, specialising in turtle rescue and rehabilitation.
• Excellent communication skills, and a good standard of written/spoken English (extra languages desirable).

To be be a full-time member of Staff, you need relevant Marine Biology qualifications & experience. Apply for a specific job vacancy, and if successful you will receive an annual employment contract and monthly salary.

The Four Seasons Apprenticeship program opens every December, training young Maldivians in all aspects of the hotel and hospitality industry over a 12-month period. Placement at our Discovery Centre can be a good start to a career as a marine biologist.

We have several Internship posts each year, depending on staffing levels and availability. You should be a post-graduate student (essential) working towards a marine-related MSc/PhD (optional), looking for work-placement, and an opportunity to collect experimental data in the field (optional).

The position of Eco-Volunteer (now closed) was open year-round to anyone with a keen interest in marine biology and the environment.
