juvenile Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.136), admitted 28 July 2018, Olhuveli, South Malé Atoll, Maldives
Weight / Length: 15.0kg / 52.2cm (upon admission);
Squirtle was found floating near Olhuveli (S.Malé Atoll) with minor injuries on her carapace. She is suffering from buoyancy syndrome and is unable to dive below the water surface.
Squirtle is receiving antibiotics and she loves her fish and lobster treats!
Squirtle continues to suffer from buoyancy syndrome, and the air in her body cavity is predominantly on one side which makes her lopsided. To try to rectify this imbalance, she now wears a special weighted belt.
Sadly, Squirtle suddenly stopped eating and died the following day. A subsequent necropsy only found air pockets, and no specific cause of death.
