Serena Rescue Turtle

female Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.148), admitted 26 December 2018, Kuda Huraa, N.Malé Atoll, Maldives

Weight / Length: 29.3kg / 64.5cm (on admittance);

Serena was found at a surfing site close to Kuda Huraa, by a guest and our surf guide. She was entangled in a ghost net (discarded fishing equipment) and suffering from multiple body abrasions (due to the collision against the coral reef).
On admittance, she was also found to have a broken bone on her flipper.

Update 28 December

Sadly, Serena died today. She had shown breathing difficulties overnight, and had been ‘dry docked’. She was found to have an intestinal infection and some ingested plastics.
