Sadamo Rescue Turtle

juvenile Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.179), admitted 23 September 2019, Makunudhoo reef, Haa Dhaalu atoll, Maldives

Weight / Length: 12.7kg / 45.3cm (on admission);

On 23 September, Sadamo was rescued by staff from the Four Seasons Explorer, travelling near Makunudhoo reef. The turtle was entangled in a floating collection of debris, including a net attached to a plastic barrel (see video, below).

On transferring to our rescue centre at Kuda Huraa, Sadamo was found to be suffering from buoyancy syndrome, a laceration on her left front flipper, abrasions on her plastrum, and with exposed bone in her carapace.

Sadamo’s wounds are being treated, we are administering antibiotics and she is under close observation in our recovery pool.
