Millie Rescue Turtle

female Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.200), admitted 12 February 2020, Milaidhoo, Baa Atoll, Maldives

Weight / Length: 15.2kg / 48.5cm (on admission);

Millie, a female Olive Ridley turtle, was found entangled in a ghost net by a guest from Milaidhoo resort (Baa atoll), on their house reef on 12 February 2020.

Sadly, her right front flipper was severely damaged by the net and no longer had blood flow, so had to be amputated. Her left back flipper also presented deep lacerations from the net, but we are hoping that this flipper will recover and she will be able to use it again.

Millie was very dehydrated from floating in the net for a long time, so was given a freshwater bath for re-hydration and a good clean upon arrival. Her wounds were tended to and treatment was given.

Millie is currently on a course of antibiotics to prevent any infection spreading to her open wounds. Despite displaying some severe injuries, she is quite active and seems resilient.
