LuckRescue Turtle

juvenile turtle (xx.xx.XXX), admitted 1 January 2024, Malé Atoll, Maldives

Weight / Length: 0.036kg / 5.8cm (on admittance)

Luck is a hatchling around a month old that was found floating with a big cut above its eye, here in the lagoon at Kuda Huraa.

He has been passing fragments of plastic in his faeces, but is showing signs of improvement.

By the end of the month, Luck had already grown to 59g and measured 7.0cm. During this period, he received fluids and plenty of food. As a result of this, his diving skills improved, passed plastic debris, and the cut wound has completely healed. Hopefully, Luck will soon be able to be released.

February Updates

This month, Luck has grown a full centimetre in length and has gained 20g in weight! He has been very active, shown an overall good appetite, and has stopped defecating plastic. X- ray images showed that he no longer had debris in his intestinal tract.

10 March Updates … release day!

After regaining the ability to dive, passing all the ingested plastic, and gaining weight, it was time for Luck’s release. He was reintroduced into open waters onboard our guest Dolphin Cruise.
