Lenny Rescue Turtle

female Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.199), admitted 8 February 2020, Voavah, Baa Atoll, Maldives

Weight / Length: 8.4kg / 42.9cm (on admission);

Lenny, a female Olive Ridley turtle, was found on 9 February 2020. She was floating on the ocean surface, entangled in a cement bag, and rescued by our colleagues from Four Seasons Voavah (Private Island). Luckily she wasn’t so tightly entangled in the bag, so the wounds she has are superficial and should heal quickly.

Lenny was given a freshwater bath for re-hydration and a good clean upon arrival. Her wounds were tended to and treatment was given. She is already diving and is resting on the bottom of her pool, so as soon as her energy levels return to normal, she can be released back into the ocean.

18 February … release day !

Under the watchful eye of our marine biologists, and following 10 days of TLC at our turtle rescue centre, Lenny was soon fit and healthy again and ready for release.

To mark our 10 year turtle rehabilitation anniversary, Lenny was released from outside our centre on the morning of 18 February, and cheered on her way by a small group of enthusiastic well-wishers. Bon voyage, Lenny. 💙
