Kasbawa is being treated for a persistent eye infection with Iodine baths and Ciplox daily. Additionally, Kasbawa has had a low appetite and has begun to lose weight.
November 2016
Kasabawa’s eye infection has cleared and the turtle is now gaining weight and diving normally.
January 2017
Kasbawa has been moved to a larger and deeper pool to further develop diving skills and build endurance.
February 2017
Kasabawa continues to be a very challenging turtle to treat, as she is very susceptible to infection. Because of this, it is no surprise that she has remained so small. She arrived at our Centre 10 months ago, along with her sibling Honu, and while Honu has reached over 3kg in weight she remains a very petite 567g!
Despite these obstacles, Kasabawa seems to enjoy her new larger pool as she can enjoy the sunshine and use the leaves that fall from the trees as her own personal sun lounger! She has gained a much more consistent appetite, most notably for lobster, and we hope if this continues we will see some real progress in her development.
28 February 2017
Kasa sadly passed away today, for reasons unknown. Low body weight over a long period made her more susceptible to infection, and was perhaps indicative of an undiagnosed chronic health or metabolic issue. She will be sadly missed by our team.
