Joy
juvenile Hawksbill turtle (RB.EI.027), admitted 10 July 2018, Villingili, Addu Atoll, Maldives
Length / Weight: 49.1cm / 13.0kg (on admission);
Joy was found floating in Villingili (Addu atoll) by Shangri-La Resort on 10 July. When the team recovered her from the ocean she was extremely weak, and covered in barnacles and algae. Upon arrival in Kuda Huraa she was motionless, unable to even lift her head or move her flippers.
After a few days of care at our Centre, she is currently on fluids and antibiotics. Every day she demonstrates a little more movement, and has started to lift her head and move her flippers on her own. We will continue with her treatments and are hopeful that she will make a full recovery in the coming weeks.
Update August 2018
Sadly, Joy was found unresponsive on the morning of 1st August. Necropsy results showed a collapsed lung and infection in other organs.
