Jasmine Rescue Turtle

(RB.LO.091), juvenile Olive Ridley turtle, admitted 27/11/2016, Voavah, Baa Atoll, Maldives

Jasmine was found floating entangled in a large, blue monofilament ghost net during a reef clean-up at Voavah – this is the most typical net found to be entangling Olive Ridley turtles in the Maldives. The small juvenile turtle has not suffered major injury, however it is dehydrated, weak and underweight, and will require rehabilitation.

Jasmine was given a shallow freshwater bath upon arrival, for dehydration. The turtle has slowly showed interest in food offered. Jasmine has been having difficulties diving, however this has slowly begun to improve.

Jasmine was successfully released on 24 December 2016 (along with Samy). After 28 days of care and rehabilitation at our centre, and gaining a kilo in weight, Jasmine was strong and healthy enough to return back to the sea.
