Jaluma
female Olive Ridley turtle, admitted 22 August 2026, InterContinental Resort, Raa Atoll, Maldives

Jaluma was found at the InterContinental Resort in Raa Atoll and was transferred to our Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Centre at Landaa Giraavaru (Maldives) on 22 August. Upon arrival, she presented fractures affecting both front flippers, while all four flippers were still present. Following an initial period of stabilisation and an attempt to preserve the affected limbs, the condition of one of the front flippers did not improve sufficiently, and sadly we were forced to amputate (on 31 August).
Jaluma is currently recovering well following the procedure. She remains able to dive and is showing good swimming ability, which is a positive indicator for her rehabilitation and future release. We will make every effort to preserve and support the recovery of the remaining front flipper, as maintaining its function will be important for her ability to return to the wild. Her recovery, swimming ability, diving behaviour, appetite, and overall clinical condition will continue to be closely monitored.
