Flossy Rescue Turtle

juvenile Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.144), admitted 25 November 2018, Landaa Giraavaru, Baa Atoll, Maldives

Weight / Length: 3.6kg / 31.9cm (on admittance);

At 3am we received a phone call from security, reporting a turtle stuck in a ghost net in the lagoon. We’ve taken her in and called her Flossy. She’s a juvenile Olive Ridley turtle, only 31.9cm ‘Straight Carapace Length’. She can dive, but has some injuries to her carapace, so we’re going to keep her at our Centre for a few weeks until she’s healed and ready for release.

02 December Update
Unfortunately Flossy has died. For the past few days, she was increasingly lethargic and refused to eat. We performed a necropsy and concluded she probably died from an infection in the wound on her back flipper.
