TG
(RB.CM.023) Juvenile Green, 01/11/2015, Vavvaru Island, Lhaviyani Atoll
‘TG’ was rescued by the Atoll Marine Centre team on the island of Naifaru. He was weak and underweight upon admittance to our turtle rescue and rehabilitation centre here at Landaa Giraavaru. TG’s left front flipper has been previously amputated, maybe from previous entanglement in a drifting ghost fishing net, and the bone was still protruding. He was also suffering from buoyancy syndrome and could not dive below the water surface.
After a few weeks on a healthy diet, TG’s health is much improved and he has started to gain weight. We are also giving extra dietary calcium to help improve the condition of the scales on his carapace. The amputation wound is now successfully scarred over, and he is now able to dive down and rest at the bottom of the pool.
