Tao
juvenile Hawksbill turtle (RB.EI.029), admitted 20 December 2018, Grand Park Kodhipparu, N.Malé Atoll, Maldives
Weight / Length: 1.6kg / 23.8cm (on admittance);
Tao was found near Grand Park Kodhipparu (North Malé Atoll), entangled in a cement bag and a ghost net (discarded fishing gear).
She is physically weak, with a recent amputation of the front right flipper, and recent lacerations on the left flipper. She is in treatment at our turtle rescue Centre, and is gradually re-gaining some strength.

10 January 2019 updates
Tao’s amputation site is healing nicely; we have attached a splint to the left flipper, inflammation has reduced, and we hope she will regain full movement of the flipper in due course.
Tao has also been a victim of the debris found in our oceans, as she has been excreting pieces of plastic. Synthetic materials are often mistaken as food or accidentally consumed, and cannot be digested by marine life. But Tao is otherwise in good health, active, and enjoying feeding on fish and spending time on the pool bottom.
