Rocky
juvenile Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.217), admitted 22 March 2021, Maamunagau, Raa Atoll, Maldives
Weight / Length: 11.8kg / 43.8cm (on admittance);
Rocky, a juvenile Olive Ridley sea turtle, was rescued by Manta Trust researchers based at InterContinental Maamunagau Resort (Raa Atoll, Maldives). Sadly, Rocky was found entangled in a large ghost net (discarded fishing gear) along with 2 other turtles and a reef shark.
Rocky arrived at our turtle rescue centre (Landaa Giraavaru) in a dehydrated state, and with several fresh wounds around the flippers (caused by the net, cutting deep into his skin). He received a fresh water bath for hydration, and will be getting wound care and a course of antibiotics to avoid infections.
Despite his injuries, Rocky is very active and has no problem diving and resting at the bottom of the tank, which means that as soon as his wounds are healed, he’ll be ready to go back to the ocean!

15 April 2021 … Release Day !
After 25 days at our turtle rescue and rehabilitation centre, it was time for Rocky’s release.
He finished his medical treatments, and his wounds healed successfully and without any complications. He was always very active – swimming, diving and feeding like a champ, so now he’s back in the ocean where he belongs. 💙 Bon voyage, Rocky. 💚
