Nadia Rescue Turtle

female Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.184), admitted 25 November 2019, Landaa Giraavaru, Baa Atoll, Maldives

Weight / Length: 7.0kg / 40.1cm (on admission); 7.4 kg / 42cm (upon release).

Nadia was found by boat crew on our House Reef here at Landaa Giraavaru, floating on the ocean surface, entangled in a ghost fishing net (with a second turtle, Iman).

The net was wrapped very tightly, inflicting deep wounds to the head and all 4 flippers. On arrival at our turtle rescue centre, we immediately started to clean her wounds, and give antibiotics.

December 2019 … Release Day!

Nadia’s wounds healed very well during her time at our Centre. She started eating every meal and was soon able to rest on the bottom of her pool.
Once the wounds were healed and she had finished her course of antibiotics, she was released on Christmas Day!
