Leo
adult male Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.174), admitted 12 May 2019, Voi Maayafushi resort, N.Ari Atoll, Maldives
Weight / Length: 22.2kg / 59.7cm (on admission);
Leo was found by the TGI diving team, floating in the lagoon of Voi Maayafushi resort (North Ari Atoll, Maldives). They kept the turtle safe and comfortable until the transfer could be arranged to our turtle rescue Centre (with the help of Constance Moofushi … it was an excellent team effort!)
Leo is missing his front left flipper, likely from an old injury as it is already healed. He is trying to dive in the pool, but has so far been unsuccessful as he is suffering from buoyancy syndrome.
Leo is currently on antibiotics and has had a big appetite since the day he arrived.

Updates June 2019
15 June, Leo was transferred to our Centre at Landaa Giraavaru, as they have more space for larger turtles, and a dedicated ocean recovery enclosure in the lagoon.
17 June, after 2 days of observation, Leo was transferred out to our ocean enclosure. Sadly, he was found floating and unresponsive the following morning. We are unsure why he died.
