Denise Rescue Turtle

juvenile Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.094), admitted 03-Jan-17, Voavah, Maldives

‘Denise’ was found tangled in a huge fishing net along with another small Olive Ridley and was rescued by guests from Voavah Private Islands (close by to Landaa Giraavaru). Denise’s front left flipper had been amputated, where the net was cutting into the skin; the bone was still there but fell off a couple of days later. Denise has no other major injuries, and we are waiting for her wound to fully recover before release.

8 March 2017
After two months of rehabilitation and care at our Centre, it was finally time for this energetic female to return back to the big blue. Denise’s front amputation has made tremendous progress and we know it will continue to heal out in the ocean.
She was successfully released to the house reef surrounding Landaa Giraavaru on 8 March.
