Albert Rescue Turtle

adult male Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.138), admitted 5 August 2018, Bandos, North Malé Atoll, Maldives

 

Weight / Length: 22.0kg / 59.2cm (upon admission); 22.0kg / 59.2cm (Sept-18); 

This adult male Olive Ridley turtle was found floating near Bandos Island Resort. He is missing the left front flipper and half of the back left flipper, from entanglement in a discarded ghost fishing net.
Albert is sitting low in the water and suffers from buoyancy syndrome, being unable to dive to the bottom of his pool to feed. He loves to eat crabs and the occasional lobster.

Update 24 February 2019

Sadly, Albert was found unresposive in his pool on the morning of 24 February.
He had been fighting infection, and a sebsequent turtle necroscopy revealed infection and a collapsed lung.
