Aisha Rescue Turtle

female Olive Ridley turtle (RB.LO.188), admitted 20 December 2019, Rihiveli, S.Malé Atoll, Maldives

Weight / Length: 10.2kg / 45.8cm (on admission);

On 20 December, Aisha was admitted to our turtle rescue centre at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives, Kuda Huraa. She had been found floating near the resort of Rihiveli (South Malé Atoll).

Aisha does not present any obvious injuries, but she is under treatment and antibiotics for sea turtle buoyancy syndrome (floating on the water surface, unable to stay submerged).

Updates March 2020

We have transferred Aisha from our Kuda Huraa centre to our facilities at Landaa. Here, we hope to introduce her to our ocean enclosure, where she will have more freedom to swim and hopefully overcome the persistent buoyancy syndrome.

🤞🏽 Fingers-crossed for Aisha to be able to dive again soon.

Updates April

On the beginning of April, Aisha was showing great improvement in her diving skills, so she was taken to our ocean enclosure. From the first moment, she started diving and swimming around. Within a few days, she was resting and feeding from the bottom netting.

On 22 April, she was released from the beach at Landaa Giraavaru, to commemorate the Anniversary of 50 years of Earth Day.
