Approximately 8 million tonnes of synthetic waste are thought to enter the world’s oceans every year, and there are currently 5 trillion pieces of plastic waste floating just in the surface waters.
The ingestion of plastics in marine wildlife is a growing concern, with plastic debris found inside many animals ranging from crabs and seabirds, to turtles and whales.
