12th November – Release of Pat, ‘Head Start’ Green Turtle

After raising Pat from a hatchling over the past 14 months as part of our ‘Head Start’ sea turtle programme, we successfully released him into the ocean. Bon voyage, Pat !

7th November – Coral Spawning, Landaa Giraavaru lagoon

On the night of the full moon of 7 November, we were lucky to witness coral spawning at our house reef here at Four Seasons Resort Landaa Giraavaru – a very rare event that happens only once or twice per year.
At 8:30pm, we noticed light pink eggs just under coral’s corallites (cup-like skeleton).
At 8:45pm, many coral species were spawning, and we successfully filmed the coral species Acropora humilis as it released spawn on the natural house reef.
We we were also thrilled to observe spawning from the coral frames themselves – proof that our coral transplantation project is successful for reproduction. We managed to capture this on film for the very first time – you can see coral frame LG714 (transplanted on October 2010) successfully spawning.
