24th June – Rescue of ‘Jesse’
‘Jesse’ is our newly admitted juvenile Olive Ridley turtle – thanks to Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu boat crew, who made the rescue from an entangled fishing ‘ghost’ net and brought her to our centre.
Jesse is quite small at 25cm, and was dehydrated on arrival and suffering from deep puncture wounds to the carapace. We have been cleaning out the wounds and encouraging her to eat to build up strength before release (hopefully in the next few days).
8th June – World Oceans Day

3rd June – Jellyfish Encounter
Thanks to our apprentice Mirufaaq for this great 30 second video clip of an unusual Thysanostoma jellyfish, filmed at Madhirivaadhoo, Baa Atoll. (We had a previous encounter with this species last month too, and you can see some photos here.)
1st June – Air France Magazine
Several weeks ago we were visited by a French photo-journalism team, who came to talk about our Reefscapers coral propagation project here at Landaa Giraavaru, and the environmental problems faced by the Maldives as a whole. Stéphane Gautronneau and Domino Lattès have kindly allowed us to feature some of their excellent photographs here on our site … merci beaucoup ! You can read the article here in Air France ‘Madame’ magazine, May 2014 issue p32+.
