Coral Propagation Programme at Four Seasons Kuda Huraa

During the month of July, a total of thirteen new coral frames were sponsored by guests and seven were sponsored by Four Seasons. We added three new frames to our water villa area, so more guests can enjoy seeing the corals growing outside their individual villas. We will continue monitoring these to determine how the different coral species grow and hopefully flourish over time.

We are continuing to develop the shallow area of the House Reef (at 2m depth), with many of our more recent frames being placed here. A couple of frames have also been added to the channel area, extending our coral nursery from which we will be able to harvest future coral fragments.

Coral Propagation Programme at Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru

In July, we transplanted 31 new coral frames at Landaa Giraavaru, taking the total so far this year to 211 (139 sponsored). We have set a goal to reach 300 sponsored frames by the end of the year so are almost half way there. (Last year we transplanted 239 sponsored frames). In total, we now have 947 sponsored frames in the lagoons around the island.

The frames at the Water Villas 300 have shown impressive growth in the last year and this is now the best area of frames around the island. Despite being less than three years old, most of the frames are now fully covered with healthy corals, and have attracted many fish to the area.
The frames in front of the Landaa Estate have also started to fill out. The frames here are just 12-18 months old, with most species growing very well, in particular Echinopora horrida.
