We had a very successful international Earth Day and managed to get guest participants from all age groups involved.
We started with an educational presentation about Earth Day itself, followed by a video screening on the life cycle of sea turtles. After refreshments, we continued with some turtle-themed educational games, designed to inform the players of the delicate balance of marine ecosystems and how sea turtles are at particular risk of becoming endangered.
Our second activity brought together both staff and guests to take part in a reef clean-up around the house reef area. We had a fantastic team of 20 volunteers who participated in this event, and we managed to collect many items of debris – most commonly seen were drifting plastic debris and discarded fishing line that had become lodged and entangled in the reef.
A big thank you to all our volunteers – staff & guests – from this year and previous events !
