October 2012 – Our environmental programmes have been recognised in the prestigious Condé Nast World Traveler World Savers Awards 2012 and Travel & Leisure’s 2012 Global Vision Awards.
We’re privileged to have received the ‘Doing It All‘ and ‘Wildlife Conservation‘ award for large resorts in the annual World Traveler World Savers Awards 2012, created to honour the travel companies doing the most to help protect the planet and give back to their local communities.
We have also been named as Runner-Up in the awards’ ‘Education‘ category in recognition of a decade of dedication to the Four Seasons Hospitality Apprenticeship Programme.
In addition, Travel & Leisure’s 2012 Global Vision Awards have highlighted us as one of just twenty international standard bearers for responsible tourism, with a place in the awards’ ‘Conservation’ category.
Our environmental efforts date back to 1998 – Kuda Huraa’s first year of opening – with the coral reef regeneration project, now known as Reefscapers. Since then, we have grown from very humble beginnings to a combination of projects today with a potential to make a real difference to the local community and environment.
Largely developed with local environmental consultancy, Seamarc Pvt. Ltd, our ongoing projects range from fish breeding to turtle conservation, local education programmes to health initiatives, cultural regeneration to support of The Manta Trust charity. We’re indebted to all the staff and guests who have supported us over the years and remain committed to continuing to play as big a role as we can in the ongoing preservation of the Maldives. Our particular thanks to Thomas Le Berre, founder of Seamarc; Yoanne Sabathé and Alban Viaud – our two Marine Discovery Centre Managers; and the Resorts’ owners, HPL Hotels & Resorts, for their generous support of all our community and environmental initiatives.
