We’re delighted to announce Oliver’s safe return to the ocean following a two-month stay in Landaa Giraavaru’s Turtle Rehabilitation Centre. Oliver, a juvenile Olive Ridley sea turtle, was found entangled in fishing net on July 28, 2012 near to the Resort.
After undergoing an emergency amputation of a damaged front flipper – an operation performed by Landaa's Resort Doctor, Dr Imran Hassan and assisted by Nurse Mherlee Ofrin – Oliver was nursed back to health by Landaa's marine biologists.
He has been released with a satellite-tracking device to help us to evaluate the effects of such a handicap on Olive Ridley sea turtles.
Our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the care and release of all of our turtles and bon voyage to our intrepid little friend!
